Join the Shire Independents

Building on the overwhelmingly positive local response to Cr Leanne Farmer’s election to Sutherland Shire Council, we’re looking to register a new political party for the next Council Elections – and we need your help!

The objective and goals of Shire Independents is to:

  • Endorse and promote suitable candidates for Local Government   elections to the Sutherland Shire Council.
  • To commit to the electorate and be independent of major party influence but will seek to work co-operatively with all Councillors and other Local Government entities and State and Federal Governments to achieve the desired outcomes for their electorate whilst maintaining transparency through the democratic processes.
  • The Shire Independents is a Party determined to protect the natural assets of Sutherland Shire, to promote sustainable development by promoting a variety of development types to suit the population without overdevelopment.
  • Shire Independents will advocate for Local residents including protecting and improving important infrastructure in the community. Including consulting with the community both the residents and business to better plan for the future.
  • Promote transparency in all Council decisions.
  • To protect and promote the interests and welfare of all the residents and ratepayers of the Sutherland Shire Local Government area.
  • To nurture, preserve and enhance all the village and business centres for the benefit of all Sutherland Shire residents, ratepayers and visitors.
  • Protect, preserve and enhance the natural attributes and the native Flora and Fauna of the Sutherland Shire Local Government Area.
  • Encourage, nurture and develop a strong sense of community amongst the residents and ratepayers of the Sutherland Shire Local Government area.
  • Community consultation in Councils decision making process.
  • Financial accountability
  • Healthy liveable environments including open space and quality community and sporting facilities.
  • Encouraging business and investment in the Sutherland Shire.

To become a member of Shire Independents, please download, sign and email both of the below forms to [email protected]:

  1. Being the Shire Independents Membership application form.
  2. Being the NSW Electoral Declaration form, which will be checked by the Electoral Commission to make sure the person joining is registered to vote in NSW.

Both these forms need to be completed. We will be in touch once the party has been formed and will charge each member a $1 joining fee and $1 yearly membership
