Since being sworn in as a Sutherland Shire Councillor in January, I’ve been busy with Council inductions, local fundraisers and community events and meeting lots of amazing people.

Australia Day Ceremony

It was lovely to attend this year’s Australia Day Awards to see the acceptance speeches and as community volunteers received their awards in recognition for the work they do. I was very moved as all the new citizens take their oath of allegiance, and to see how much it meant to them to become Australian citizens.

North Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club

It was such a privilege to support North Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club and my good friends Michael and Alison Bofinger on the launch of a new Surf Boat at the end of January. Named after Michael’s father & North Cronulla Life Member ‘Billy Bofinger’, it’s been proudly donated by Dave and Caroline Hammond in loving memory of Dave’s sister Jane Bloor and the ‘Fight MND’ cause. We join Michael & Alison and North Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club in wishing all the crews who will row the mighty ‘Bill Bofinger’ the very best of luck and we know with the spirit of Jane and Bill, you will be proud representatives of North Cronulla.

Richie Walker Memorial Aquathon

At the Richie Walker memorial Aquathon on the beautiful foreshore of Gunnamatta Park it was so lovely to meet locals Dave & Liz Walker who tragically lost their son Richie at the young age of 21 to a heart attack, and to be part of this great event which is also supported by the Heart Foundation. Contestants from all over NSW from the very young Under 7 to the delightful Michael Lewis from Canberra who at the age of 85 still enters competitions weekly. As a NDIS provider it was motivating to see Helensburgh’s blind Triathlete Nathan Johnson competing, he’s a true inspiration to everyone! Congratulations to the Open winner Nathan Breen, our own local world title holder, and the first female past the post Sydney’s Tilly Offord

Bundeena Community

Last week I headed over to Bundeena on the ferry to discuss some resident’s issues. Bundeena is certainly growing and with that comes the challenges associated with being adjacent to the Royal National Park. It was lovely to also have the Federal candidate for Hughes Linda Seymour with me to meet up with and talk to locals. I have raised some of their concerns with the council and look forward to working to support the Bundeena community.

I feel truly blessed to serve my community and look forward to making positive steps for all the shire. If you’d like me to support you at a local event, have concerns you’d like to raise or would like help or advocacy on any Council Matters, I’d love to hear from you!
